Wednesday 6th March
We headed south today and our first stop was at a sculpture trail related to the forests called 'Understorey'. There were about 30 pieces and the trail was on a 1.2km circuit. A headset was included and we chose the option to listen to the artists describing their influences and how the works were created. It was well worth the hour that we spent there.

These are some of our favourites.
Forest Stones  This first piece, which is made of carved granite, is one of a series of 5 related to local children's stories.

Layers and Then There's Layers ( Forest Folk ) There were about half a dozen of these squat figures in the woodland.

Sundew. These sundews are tiny in real life and the sculpture also represents the fires that are frequent around here in the way that it swirls around the tree trunk.

Fallen Ghost This is life sized and created from 800m of knitted wire. Over time it will become more visible as leaf litter falls on it and plants grow over it.

Further along the same road we entered D'Entrecasteaux National Park and stopped to see Mount Chudalup which is a massive granite outcrop rising to 188 metres.

On our way to the end of this road we pulled off to Salmon Beach. As we followed the path a four foot long snake crossed in front of us. We believe it was a venemous Australian Brown Snake. Needless to say we kept in the middle of the marked paths from then on.

At the end of the road we enjoyed this amazing view from Point D'Entrecasteaux.
