Wednesday 13th March
We left Esperance to travel north to Norseman which is the gateway to the road across the Nullarbor Plain. On the way we stopped at Salmon Gum which gets its name from the lovely trees in that area.

200km after we set out we reached Norseman where this roundabout features sculptures of camels which used to transport all the goods in this area.

Then we started on the Eyre Highway which eventually leads to Adelaide 1980km away. We saw this sign at the beginning just outside Norseman.

About 50km along the road we stopped at this beautiful roadside lake, the largest of several that we saw.

Further along, the taller tress were just skeletons as far as the eye could see and only the low growing shrubs were green and healthy.

Just over the brow of a hill the scene changed again with forests and road stretching for miles ahead of us.

At one point a police car came up the wrong side of the road to clear the way for this very wide load.

We arrived at Balladonia, checked into the hotel and had a look round the museum in the same building. Its main claim to fame is that in 1979 the American space station Skylab came down to earth nearby.

Just across the parking lot is one of the holes on the longest golf course in the world, the Nullarbor Links. It stretches 1365km from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to Ceduna in South Australia and each of the 18 holes is in a different place often up to a hundred km away from the last one.
