We have seen these parrots in many places but they fly quickly and are well hidden as soon as they land in the trees. These were in the trees outside our room this morning.
We returned to Lake Cowan and found that overnight rain had increased the area of water.
We came past a stand of Blackbutt gums which shed their black bark except for the bottom three or four feet, hence their name.
After driving north for a couple of hours we arrived in Kalgoorlie and drove to a lookout point above the town.
We then visited the viewing platform for the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, a gigantic operation for extracting gold.
This is one of the enormous buckets used by the diggers at the pit. It was fascinating to watch the constant stream of huge vehicles which looked tiny against the scale of the pit.
