Saturday 9th March
We started out today by visiting the Albany Farmers' Market just near the hotel. There was a good variety of first rate fruit and vegetables and several stalls selling honey.

We then walked up through town to see the 'famous' Dog Rock.

On our drive out we passed the life sized replica of the Brig Amity which transported convicts from England in the nineteenth century with 45 people on board. The journey took six weeks and those on board also included soldiers, surgeons and a store keeper who became the first settlers in Western Australia.

We drove on to West Cape Howe National Park to see Torbay Head, the southernmost point in Western Australia. Again we noticed the coral spawn colouring the water in places. This is Shelley Beach.

On the next headland we drove through Torndirrup National Park to see The Gap, which reminded us of Malham Cove as we walked over the rocks.

The Gap is a long narrow inlet eighty feet below the cliff tops. The big waves from the Southern Ocean were surging in and were fascinating to watch.

A short walk away was Natural Bridge, a feature carved from the ancient granite. To give an idea of scale there is a person with a red top on the right hand side. We like the National Parks warning signs; Your safety is our concern but your responsibility.

The view just a few steps further around is not as dramatic but just as stunning.
