Tuesday 4th September
We set off later today because we had to sort out something with the car. On our drive north the fields on either side were very dry and any machines working there created huge dust clouds.

We drove to Lava Beds National Monument which was much more extensive than we expected and, as it was later in the day, there were very few people there.

As we were leaving we saw several groups of deer by the roadside.

We were even more surprised to see this family of wild cats ( possibly Ocelots or Margays ). On our way in we saw a coyote but it was too wily to be photographed.

There were irrigation ditches beside the fields in most of this area and  acres of vegetables including potatoes and onions as well as wheat.

Within a few miles we had left California and entered Oregon, a state we have not previously visited.
