Friday 14th September
We started our day at Bonneville Dam where we went to the centre to view the salmon making their way upstream to spawn.

This fish ladder has been created to allow salmon to pass through the dam.

In one area there was a row of vintage cars whose owners were also touring the site.

There is the Bonneville Fish Hatchery next door which raises salmon and sturgeon. This is Herman the Sturgeon who is on special view and is over 10 feet long.

We followed the Historic Columbia River Highway 30 west which features a number of high waterfalls. This is Horsetail Falls.

Next is the famous Multnomah Falls which are 624 feet high and are Oregon's tallest falls.

Further on we came to Wahkeena Falls which, although not the tallest, we thought were the prettiest.

We retraced our route to the town of Mount Hood and then followed part of the Hood River County Fruit Loop which includes vinyards, farms, orchards and produce stalls. We stopped at The Gorge White House where we could taste wines, pick our own flowers and buy beautifully ripe friut. The pears were huge, red and delicious.

Further on the loop we were able to view Mount Hood . Unfortunately it was partially obscured by smoke from local forest fires.
