Saturady 14th March
Rotorua to Tauranga
This morning only a short drive to Tauranga but the road has been cut through huge rocks, mainly by hand in the depression of the 1920's.
We visited the Tauranga Art Gallery, only small but with some good pieces by Julia Morison.

We then drove past the port and over the river to Mount Maunganui that dominates the town.

We took an hour to hike up to the summit and enjoyed some wonderful views of the Bay of Plenty.

On the other side we could see the port where a couple of cruise liners were docked. This is the main kiwi fruit growing area and most are exported from here.

On the way back we hiked down the steeper trail and watched some small boats coming and going into the harbour with the forested Matakana Island in the background.

Seeing the cruise ships is a great reminder that Singapore is less than 2 weeks away. Will we recognise you at Raffles with the new haircut?
