Picton to Waikanae via InterIslander ferry
Thank you Russell, Christine and Helen for the advice about destinations and lengths of stay in South Island.
We set off from Picton under blue skies to Waikawa Bay where we stopped to explore. We walked out on a jetty and saw shoals of tiny fish in the clear water. There were people using their boats and going out into the Sound.
As we were walking back down the jetty, only a few yards from shore, we saw this large ray gently swimming just under the surface. It was about two feet across.
We continued up the coast and walked to Karaka Point past an old Maori Pa site. At the end was a tiny isolated beach.
