Pukekohe to Whangarei via Auckland
A new toll road was opened on SH1 in January but the electronic payment system had crashed today so we could not use it and had to take a detour through Orewa. This was fortunate because it is a lovely small town and we were able to spend time relaxing on the beach in the sunshine.


The route took us past wide ocean bays with deep turquoise water.


When we arrived in Whangarei we went down to The Town Basin which was full of yachts, including catamarans and trimarans.

On the quayside there is a huge sundial outside a clock museum which we hope to visit tomorrow.
