Tuesday 10th February
We had an early start and a good run to the ferry, with no delays.

The day was grey and overcast and for much of the crossing visibility wasn't as clear as we had hoped. As we left the Cook Straight and entered Charlotte Sound visibility improved a little and the views were amazing.

Half an hour south of Picton we entered the wine area where the vines were splashes of green in the valleys against the dry brown hillsides.

For much of the journey the road followed close to the coast and there were many dramatic views.

Towards our final destination of Kaikoura we saw several seal colonies.
