Saturday 14th February
This morning we went to Christchurch Art Gallery and spent a couple of hours looking at a wide range of exhibitions.

We crossed the road to the Arts Centre for the Saturday market where the items are all local and of good quality. The shops inside the building also sold good quality art and craft items that were more expensive than those outside but it was still very busy and all the units were occupied.

Next door are the old college buildings which house cafes, galleries and museums built around a central courtyard. We watched a Jazz group set up and start to play as we soaked up the sun and watched people pass by.

On our way back to the car, we walked by the Avon River in Hagley Park. The water is very clear and fairly shallow.

We drove out of the city to Christchurch Gondolas which take you up to the rim of a volcano.

The views from the top are magnificent and you can see for miles. There are footpaths all around the Gondola Station and we walked down to a very good view of the liner Queen Victoria and the docks.

Later in the afternoon we drove up the coast to Sunmer Beach and enjoyed a walk along the extensive sands and saw the riders arriving here at the end of the Speights Coast to Coast race.
