This morning we walked across the road to the Botanic Garden which is much bigger than we expected. There are lovely rose gardens, long colourful mixed borders, various glasshouses and a large aviary.
It is very hilly and there is an impressive rock garden that was originally created over 100 years ago.
We drove a little way past the gardens to see Baldwin Street, officially the steepest street in the world according to The Guiness Book of Records. It has a gradient of 1 in 1.266, which is angle of just less than 45 degrees, at its steepest. We didn't test the car brakes on it though
About mid-day it began to rain steadily and did not stop for the rest of the day. We drove into town and explored a bit more of the Otago Peninsula which looked very different with the high tide and the grey misty weather. Back in town we visited The Dunedin Public Art Gallery which had a good mixture of European, Japanese and New Zealand art.
