It was raining again in Dunedin as we set off on the scenic route to Invercargill. Just out of Dunedin we saw this unusual warning sign. We weren't sure which bird we had to look out for. You people who have been to New Zealand, please let us know.
One of the advantages of the rain is that the waterfalls are at their best, as shown here at Parakaunui Falls. As we walked through the woods, the birdsong was lovely.
Further on there were two falls very close to each other, Matai Falls and Horseshoe Falls, both at their most spectacular.
The route was very quiet as we passed through rounded hills, old forests and well-established farmland.

Later in the afternoon we drove from the motel in Invercargill to Bluff, the oldest European settlement in New Zealand and also the Southern end of Highway 1. There is nothing between here and Antarctica except ocean.
