Tonight we are still in Williams, Arizona.

This morning we drove south out of Williams, along a cindered road through pine forests, to White Horse Lake. It was beautiful with few other people around and lots of wildlife, birds, huge insects, a deer and warning notices about bears.

In the afternoon we headed north of Williams to The Grand Canyon. The scale is awe inspiring. We walked along the Rim Trail for a couple of miles and tried to capture the views on camera.

Alan hiked out onto a ledge over the canyon. The smoke on the far rim is from a controlled burn, not a forest fire.

This path is Bright Angel Trail, which leads down into the canyon. We followed it for a mile or so, setting off about 4.30 pm as advised by Ethel. Good advice, thank you again. It is the trail used by the mules so is fairly wide but rather smelly in places.

A view into the canyon part way down the trail. Walking into the canyon gives a different perspective.

There is no barrier to the edge of the trail, just a warning to be careful as the sheer drop is several thousand feet.

We sat on a ledge by the rim near Yavapai Point as the sun started to set. People from all over the world were around us quietly chatting and taking photos. The sky was lovely and the view was clear for miles. Just when we thought that the sunset was over this bright pink glow appeared and the colours were unbelievable.

An hour's drive back into Williams under a clear starry sky rounded off a long and unforgettable day.
