This morning we decided to spend some time at the lakes in the mountains above San Bernardino, fires permitting. The road was very steep as it snaked up the mountainside, climbing up to over 6,000 feet.
The first stop was at Lake Gregory where we had a short walk around the lake on the fitness trail in the woods, but we didn't do any of the exercises.
This was a lovely place but unfortunately there was no public access to the shoreline as it was all taken up by private houses. We spent a short time at the dock in Lake Arrowhead Village.
Back on Route 66, in Rialto, we discovered the second Wigwam Motel.
Denny's is a well known chain of American Diners and this is one of the Classic Art Deco buildings that has survived intact.
Palm trees abound in this area. These fine examples were in Monrovia.
In Duarte there were long avenues of these clipped, bell-shaped, trees. Mission bells serve as the emblems for this area.
We crossed Sunset Boulevard which heads South West into central Los Angeles. (We remember "77 Sunset Strip", the black and white 60's TV serial starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and Ed 'Cookie' Byrne).
