We are now in Gallup, New Mexico, not far from the Arizona border.

This is a typical adobe building in Albuquerque. Most of the city is low rise and there were patterns and colours everywhere on the buildings.

Just on the edge of the city we crossed the Rio Grande.

A very interesting drive on Route 66 led us to this hairpin corner, known as Dead Man's Bend.

Rock regularly falls from the cliff face. This piece by the side of the road has been known as Owl Rock for many years.

There are 400,000 acres of this black lava here that supports scrubby plants but not much else.

For many miles these stunning red mesas parallell the road. Just as we thought that they were coming to an end, another appeared in the distance. You can see the railway line that runs alongside the road for nearly all its length.

The Continental Divide, we are really over the half way mark now. All the rivers behind us flow into the Atlantic Ocean and all those in front flow into the Pacific.

We saw lots of trains on this stretch of the track. This one was pulled by three locomotives and had over a hundred wagons. We took a video to count them.

The best thing today was the fantastic scenery on both sides of the road.
Here in Gallup 85% of the world's trade in Native American Arts and Crafts takes place so we've had a look round the shops and galleries. Shops, hotels and houses back straight on to rocky desert.
