At present we are in Williams, Arizona.

On our way up the deep valley from Sedona, this morning, we stopped at a view point that showed the valley and the road that we had climbed. It was very twisty and narrow with a sheer drop on one side of the road with each turn that it took. We climbed from 4,000 feet above sea level to over 6,000 feet in 12 miles.

As suggested by Ethel from Indiana, we took at Detour just East of Flagstaff to Walnut Canyon. It is a very deep canyon that was inhabited by Indians about 900 years ago. They built their houses under the overhanging ledges.

We walked a mile trail down into the canyon to view the houses and to get a feel of what it may have been like to live there. It was a '2 bottles of water walk' as, once again the temperatures were high with hot sun overhead.
Handmade stone walls divided the overhanging space into a series of rooms.

This is the first sign that shows our final destination of Los Angeles. Still some way to go!

We have not progressed too far along Route 66 today as we had decided to stay in Williams and visit the Grand Canyon.
