Sunday 9th March
We watched the sun rise over the bay in Paihia this morning.

At Mangonui, an hour's drive north of Paihia, we looked across Doubtless Bay.

Our next destination was Cape Reinga, which is as far north as you can go in New Zealand. Sand dunes line the coast on the west.

This is where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea and the currents create whirlpools where the two waters meet as well as a definite colour change today.

This is Cape Reinga itself with distant views across the sea.

The signpost matches the one at Stirling Point, the southernmost point of New Zealand.

On our return journey we passed a field where we noticed rheas grazing with the sheep.

This is a view of the southern end of Ninety Mile Beach and in the distance you can just see a car as this beach is classified as a road.
