Wednesday 22nd February
We visited the Queensland Art Gallery and were impressed by the entrance with its island sculptures.
This is one of the pieces of aboriginal art from the collection.
This is the painting voted most popular by locals. It is called 'Under the Jacaranda' by R Godfrey Rivers.
While we were enjoying a coffee break by the gallery pool this ibis was one of several that were enjoying the waters. They are a common sight in this city.
Just as we were leaving an Eastern Water Dragon emerged next to this hat.
We walked over to the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) to see an exhibition by Yayoi Kusama. This room was lined with mirrors and walking through it was quite disorientating but fun.
This is one of her interactive installations where the room and contents were originally all white and visitors are invited to attach circular stickers anywhere they want, with the objective of eventually covering all the white spaces.
On the south bank of the river is the Wheel of Brisbane on which we had a ride, five revolutions.
We were rewarded with stunning views across the Brisbane River.
Brisbane hosted the 1981 Expo here and this Nepalese temple is the only building that remains in situ, the rest of the site having been converted into a theatre and arts centre.
We then took a two hour ride on the City Cat, a fast ferry service up and down the river.
We stood at the front and enjoyed a cool breeze and the cityscape around us.
After dinner we strolled down to the riverside again to see the city lit up at night.
* This may be our last post for a few days as we are not sure whether we can access the internet on the train.
