After a good journey from Ballina we dropped off the hire car and had plenty of time to start exploring Brisbane. We walked down to the Botanic Gardens and followed the path by the Brisbane River.

The park is at the bottom edge of the city and it is edged by modern buildings.

The city is a mixture of old and new buildings that complement each other well..

Recently a bike hire scheme, similar to the one in London, has been introduced but people ride on the pavements here rather than on the busy roads.

After having dinner in town we walked back through King George Square. We noticed the time on a building and realised that Queensland does not use daylight saving time and so we had gained an hour.
