Saturday 18th February
This morning we continued our journey north by driving past several large lakes where we saw lots of black swans and pelicans..

We travelled through Booti Booti National Park and stopped at an opening in the dunes. After a short walk we found ourselves on a beautiful stretch of deserted beach. We decided to walk barefoot along the shoreline and the sand was unbelievably soft.

Later in the morning we climbed through the rainforest to Cape Hawk viewing platform and saw the beach that we had walked along earlier.

In the early afternoon we explored Kattang Nature Reserve, which is sited on a peninsula, and walked about a mile to Perpendicular Point. This is the view back into the bay on one side.

On the other side were these steep slopes and cliffs down into the sea. We could hear a booming sound as the water hit the rocks.

On the path through the reserve we disturbed three goanna lizards which were all about two feet long. We didn't get a photo but we found this one to show what they are like.

On the final part of this section of the Pacific Highway both sides of the road were edged with these lily like flowers.

This evening we are staying at Kempsey and had dinner on the veranda overlooking the Macleay River where we watched fish leaping and many types of birds including green parakeets.
