Sunday30th September
On our continued journey south we stopped at Devils Churn, a split in the rock that narrows to a few feet wide before disappearing into the cliff making the water crash between the rocks as the waves pour in.

We followed a trail at Cape Perpetua State Park around the headland to a place where we sat and enjoyed this view.

We drove down to the beach by Heceta Head lighthouse where we relaxed for a while but found that the wind whipped up the sand from time to time.

Further on we found a high point to view the coastline stretching out ahead of us.

We took a side road off Highway 101 to visit Darlingtonia State Natural Site where you can access a boardwalk to see an area of thousands of carniverous pitcher plants.

This coastline is characterised by high sand dunes which even edge onto the road.

A few miles further on we climbed to a viewing area called the Oregon Dunes Overlook where you can see the ocean and miles of dunes. Two people can be seen left of centre in this photo which shows the immense size of the dunes.

Our last stop was the North Bend boardwalk on Coos Bay. At one time this area was the largest timber port in the world but now that industry has dwindled.
