Train Day 1 - Tuesday 2nd October
This was taken in the early morning just as we had set off from Emeryville.
These are the double decker sleeping cars on the train. We had a double window on the top deck and could see out of the corridor window on the other side as well as use the observation car.
These are some of the views we saw from the train window on the first day.
This is Train Number 6 that pulled us all the way from San Francisco, 2,430 miles. We were able to take this photo because at certain stops passengers were encouraged to get out and stretch their legs.
We had a sleeping car attendant called Diane, who was very loud but very humerous.
We saw these unusual cliffs as we started to climb higher into the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Food on the train was quite good and the seating system meant that we sat with different people for each of the three meals of the day. We had some very interesting conversations and the day went much quicker than we expected.
