Friday 21st February
This morning we drove into Napier to see the vintage cars that are starting to arrive for the Art Deco weekend.

On one corner there was a barber's shop quartet giving a free open-air concert.

Many people walking around town were dressed up in 1920s / 30s costume.

We followed the Art Deco Buildings Trail and we were fortunate enough to capture the appropriate car outside this building.

The weekend proper started with this superb air display over the sea.

The air display was watched by several thousand spectators on the promenade and on the beach.

The star attraction of the vintage cars was this Hispano Suiza that once belonged to the Shah of Iran. It was bought by a New Zealander in 2011 and is reportedly worth more than three million pounds. It was a treat to see such a rare and valuable car openly on show for people to enjoy.

The evening's entertainment was rounded off by the Hawkes Bay Big Band playing tunes from the era while people listened or danced. Some couples were very good and one older couple were outstanding.
