Wednesday 16th May

We began this circular walk in Leathley.
After following ancient tracks we crossed Thrispin Beck to enter Riffa Wood.

By the side of the track we saw this curiously carved rock in the shape of a head.

We continued up the track marked the remains of causey stones which were used to pave packhorse routes.

After about three miles we entered the churchyard of Stainburn church. It is a Grade 1 listed building dating back to Norman times.

We enjoyed good views of Lindley Wood Reservoir at the bottom of the Washburn valley before following the river to complete the walk.

Wednesday 9th May
We enjoyed an outing with the U3A walking group, starting and finishing in Aberford. The first part of the walk took us through Hazel Wood where the bluebells were at their best.

We stopped for lunch at Lead Church, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book.

On the return section we followed this stream for some distance. The route was just short of eight miles in length.

Monday 7th May
We drove to Sawley near Fountains Abbey to explore a circular walk that we hadn't tried before. Half way along the walk we passed these rocks by the side of a small lake.

Further on we came to Eavestone Lake which was created by the monks at the abbey for fishing.

It is a beautiful spot with huge rocks of many interesting shapes lining the path.

This lovely little stone arch bridge crosses the outlet from the lake.
