Wednesday 1st June
We drove to Whitby for a day out at the coast. We began by climbing the 199 steps up to St Hilda's church.

Today the church was open to the public. The unusual box pews have deep sides and some are more comfortable than others. The double height pulpit dominates the whole church.

We strolled around the grounds of the abbey, enjoying the warm breeze.

We returned to the town down Caedmon's Trod and just made it over the swing bridge before it was opened to let a fishing boat through.

We walked up Khyber Pass to the whale's jawbone and enjoyed the view across the harbour.
