Thursday 30th June
We went for a walk around Fewston Reservoir. We have never seen the water at such a low level.

On the way round we walked on the exposed edge and built three stone towers. On our next visit we will see if anyone else has built some.

The flowers all around were lovely, especially the foxgloves behind this big honeysuckle.

Sunday 26th June
We drove to Filey to enjoy the beautiful weather today. From the cliffs we saw lots of yachts in the bay.

We walked along the beach and were told that this weekend was Filey Regatta and that there were a number of races taking place.

We watched as some of the yachts were launched into the sea.

We strolled further up the beach as far as we could go along the base of Filey Brig exploring the emerging rock pools as we went.

When we returned to the cliff top we saw this man take off into the breeze and eventually land on the beach.

Saturday 25th June
We found a new walk, from the top of Valley Gardens in Harrogate to Harlow Carr, which gave us this stunning view across open countryside.

At Harlow Carr we went to 'A Taste of Summer' with crafts, Harrogate brass band, demonstrations and talks in the gardens.

Friday 24th June

This afternoon we visited Burnby Hall and gardens in Pocklington near York.
As we entered we saw people feeding the fish by the edge of the lake.

The gardens contain the National Collection of water lilies which covers both lakes and there is a huge variety of colours.

There are several types of garden and we particularly enjoyed the rock garden with its meandering paths and many nooks and crannies.

As we relaxed near the small lake, we watched many birds feeding.

This bridge was a lovely feature that led us to the short Woodland Walk.

In the evening we all enjoyed a meal at the Whitehouse in Roundhay.

Wednesday 15th June
We drove to Hebden for a walk beside the River Wharfe to Grassington and back.

We stopped by the side of the river and noticed thousands of tiny fish swimming in the shallows.

On the bridge above Linton Falls we admired the tumbling waters and unusual rocks.

Thursday 2nd June
Today we went with Enid and John to see the Leeds Chelsea gardens that have been recreated in Roundhay Park.

This is the 2010 garden that won a gold medal.

This is the 2009 garden that also won a gold medal.

We relaxed in the hot sunshine watching the fountains in the Alhambra Garden.

Wednesday 1st June
We drove to Whitby for a day out at the coast. We began by climbing the 199 steps up to St Hilda's church.

Today the church was open to the public. The unusual box pews have deep sides and some are more comfortable than others. The double height pulpit dominates the whole church.

We strolled around the grounds of the abbey, enjoying the warm breeze.

We returned to the town down Caedmon's Trod and just made it over the swing bridge before it was opened to let a fishing boat through.

We walked up Khyber Pass to the whale's jawbone and enjoyed the view across the harbour.
