Tuesday 23rd February
Relaxing, looking out over the waterhole outside our tent at Sweetwaters after a 4 hour drive from Nairobi.
On our first afternoon drive we saw lots of Common Zebra.
We stopped at the chimp sanctuary where the work that Jane Goodall started to rescue orphaned chimps is being continued. This area is not their natural habitat.
The raised roof on the van afforded us a good view.
We saw several big groups of impala.
The baboons were making a lot of noise and playing on the tree trunks.
The reserve is full of open grassland areas and we rarely saw more than one other van.
In this wetter area the grass was lush and we could hear the elephants pull it out, roots and all.
We saw three lionesses and three cubs resting very close to the road
When the ranger invited us to touch the rhino Alan was quick to volunteer.
The giraffe were beautiful and moved in long, loping strides.
