Saturday 19th May
This is the first full day on our trip to Florence with Russell, Christine & Christopher. We have a flat in Via D'Ardiglione.

We walked from the flat across the River Arno in lovely sunny weather.

On our way we passed the Chiesa di Santa Trinita which was built originally in the 11th Century but was rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 13th or 14th century.

Inside were some beautiful frescos.

We were heading to the oldest bridge in Florence, the Ponte Vecchio but it was so crowded with tourists we could hardly see anything.

Our second destination was the Pitti Palace and the adjoining Bobboli Grdens.

The view from the rose garden was stunning.

We also had some lovely views over Florence, this one shows the Duomo, part of Florence's Cathedral.

Our final visit in the gardens was the Buontalenti Grotto which was built in the late 16th century and was fashionable at that time. It depicts scenes from folklore and ancient history.

Later in the evening we went for dinner in the lovely Piazza de Santa Maria Novella.
