Saturday 24th July
This morning we walked up to the castle in Barnard Castle, which is very extensive.

We explored the various areas and were able to walk through the buildings and to the top of this round tower, built by Richard III.

The view of the river from the castle walls is stunning.

We drove further up the valley to Middleton-in-Teesdale, admiring the views, on a lovely clear day.

At Middleton we discovered a scarecrow trail that is part of the local summer festival.
