Thursday 28th September
Roundhay Park was lovely today.
After finally retiring from work, we are going to do some of the travelling we promised ourselves and find interesting things to do.
Thursday 28th September
Roundhay Park was lovely today.
Tuesday 26th September
Spofforth Castle was the anchor point for a walk through the woods behind it then across the ridge before descending to the beck. There is an extremely well placed seat at the top facing the distant views. The golf course was very quiet but there were half a dozen walkers enjoying the warmth and breeze.
6th September
Beautiful flowers at Beningbrough Hall this afternoon. The borders were alive with bees as well as colour. The huge old espaliered pear tree is strengthened with a metal support screwed into the trunk. We enjoyed sitting in lloyd loom chairs in the loggia beside the fountain. It was so cool and relaxing on a hot day.
5th September
A beautiful drive to Pickering and over the North York Moors where we stopped for lunch and a walk. Then on to Whitby where we parked on the wharf with a beautiful view of the river, the marina and river traffic, church, abbey & a variety of gulls. We walked to the end of the pier then back over the swing bridge & up through the old part of town to the seats overlooking the opposite side of the harbour. Bright blue skies all day.
4th September
27 degrees and blue skies so we sought water and ended up walking around Roundhay Park Lake. The water was clear and the area looked well cared for. Lots of people were out enjoying the sun and admiring the swans. The bonus for us was seeing a heron drying its wings with a cormorant sitting beside it.
