 Thursday 28th September

Roundhay Park was lovely today.

The mature trees are wonderful.

Canal Gardens was colourful and the fountain has stopped the green algae from covering all the water.

The walled garden is a real sun trap and the autumn bedding plants were at their best.

Barrens Fountain was at full height and attracting ducks and river gulls.

The views of the lake and the slope of The Carriage Drive make it a treat to walk down.

The old drinking fountain is still magnificent.

Lovely clear views and large areas of grass to play on as you approach the Lower Lake.

 Tuesday 26th September

Spofforth Castle was the anchor point for a walk through the woods behind it then across the ridge before descending to the beck. There is an extremely well placed seat at the top facing the distant views. The golf course was very quiet but there were half a dozen walkers enjoying the warmth and breeze.

 Monday 25th September

Temple Newsam today. It may be the end of September but the temperature was nearly 20 degrees. We drove around the new East Leeds Ring Road which has lovely views and wide paths and green spaces either side. It was very quiet at Temple Newsam and the greenhouses were lovely.

The chrysanthemum trials at Golden Acre Park are an autumn treat which we enjoyed today followed by a walk around the lake.

 9th September

The Festival of Flavours is being held at Harlow Carr this weekend. We enjoyed some pop songs from the 70s that were part of it then cooled off in the pinewoods before heading up through the vegetable gardens to the tropical area which was a blaze of colour.

 6th September

Beautiful flowers at Beningbrough Hall this afternoon. The borders were alive with bees as well as colour. The huge old espaliered pear tree is strengthened with a metal support screwed into the trunk. We enjoyed sitting in lloyd loom chairs in the loggia beside the fountain. It was so cool and relaxing on a hot day.

 5th September

A beautiful drive to Pickering and over the North York Moors where we stopped for lunch and a walk. Then on to Whitby where we parked on the wharf with a beautiful view of the river, the marina and river traffic, church, abbey & a variety of gulls. We walked to the end of the pier then back over the swing bridge & up through the old part of town to the seats overlooking the opposite side of the harbour. Bright blue skies all day.

 4th September

27 degrees and blue skies so we sought water and ended up walking around Roundhay Park Lake. The water was clear and the area looked well cared for. Lots of people were out enjoying the sun and admiring the swans. The bonus for us was seeing a heron drying its wings with a cormorant sitting beside it.

 2nd September

We walked around the Sculpture Park at Newby Hall where there are 41 pieces this year. The woods are as varied and beautiful as ever. There were some kinetic sculptures for the first time and owls were popular.
