Thursday 27th August
Although it is nearby, this is the first time that we have visited Ripley Castle. The view across the lake from the castle is lovely, with many birds and deer at the waters edge.

The walled garden was a lovely sun trap with impressive mixed borders.

The Palm House was built in the early nineteenth century and it is also the entrance to the long hothouse.

At one end of the kitchen garden this colourful wildflower area has been created.

Wednesday 19th August
We drove through Pateley Bridge and a couple of miles up the hill on the road out to Skipton. From the footpath the view across Nidderdale was stunning.

After a long uphill walk we reached the entrance to Coldstones Cut.

We took careful note of the direction and distance to Nairobi from one of the viewing towers.

Back down near the car park we explored the big old Lime Kiln which makes good use of the landscape.

Tuesday 18th August
Eunice is staying with us for a few days. We spent today at Beamish Museum and although it rained on and off during the day, we had an enjoyable time.
