Hackfall Woods has been on our list of places to visit for a long time. We followed the route down towards the River Ure.
At the bottom there is a sandy beach which gives great views of the river in both directions.
We have never seen so many wood anemones in one place and they were in full bloom too.
We walked along the path by the side of the river crossing several bridges over streams which flow down the hillside.
We looked up and saw Fisher's Hall above us and walked up some steps to it. It has had a roof and glass in the windows at one time, but has fallen into disrepair.
We walked back up a steep and narrow woodland path and sat on the sheltered bench for a few minutes at Alum Spring.
As we walked further up the hillside we looked back at Mowbray Castle, a folly, on the other side of the valley.
This is the view from The Ruin, another folly on our route back.
